Paddle Out Will Pay Tribute to Those Who Died From COVID-19, Their Families, Nurses

Nichol Des Jardins Clark, a clinical nurse at Cottage Hospital, wrote on the Paddle Santa Barbara Facebook page about what the paddle out means: “COVID has touched so many of us. As nurses, it’s so hard loving somebody for weeks and fighting for them and losing them and not being able to hold their families, or talk to them and grieve.
“We love them and then lose them, totally lose them because we were only family for a little bit and then they are gone, and we aren’t family and don’t know they’re real people. And the grief has no place to go. ....

Holiday Paddle at Santa Barbara Harbor Still On Schedule

The inaugural Santa Barbara Holiday Paddle has been moved to Sunday due to the high winds on Saturday, event organizer Donna Meissner-Davirro said Saturday morning.
The paddle is postponed till tomorrow at the same time, she said in an email to Noozhawk. Wind is way less tomorrow. Santa Barbara sailing has canceled rentals today because of wind.
The paddle, a fundraiser for the nonprofit CALM, goes from 11 a.m to 1 p.m., starting at the Santa Barbara Harbor boat launch.
Because the Holiday Paddle is an outdoor ‘workout,’ we are still planning to spread the cheer (on) Sunday, Meissner-Davirro said on the Paddle Santa Barbara Facebook page. It will be from 11-1, so we can spread out water entry and exit and keep a safe distance. ....
