Eight Canberrans to remain in quarantine longer than 14 days

ACT Health officials in charge of quarantining returning Canberrans from overseas are taking no risk with public health.
Eight passengers from a repatriation flight that arrived on March 2 will remain locked away inside the Pacific Suites Hotel for longer than the practice of 14 days for quarantine.
While the other 138 travellers from Singapore were cleared to return home after all tested negative before their hotel exit on Tuesday (March 16), ACT Health have confirmed three of the residents free of the virus could be a possible risk to the Canberra community.
Five persons were found to carry COVID-19 after a young male, who was a close contact to the previous infection off the flight to Canberra, was the last to test positive for the virus. ....

Two Canberrans test positive amid hotel quarantine

TWO Canberrans arriving in hotel quarantine overnight have returned a “weak positive” test result for COVID-19, according to ACT Health.
The mandatory day one test followed repatriation flights that arrived on Tuesday (March 2) and returned 147 residents back home to the capital.
A further 31 Australian passengers headed to Sydney after first touching down in Canberra.
The positive test results were in one male in his 40s and another who was a teenager.
Both individuals were not known to previously have COVID-19 overseas, had no signs of the virus boarding the flight and have now been labelled asymptomatic. ....

CANBERRA will be central to the federal government’s plans of repatriation flights for returning Australians from next month.
But the ACT government has played down the capital’s role in welcoming expatriates home into hotel quarantine.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr has denied reports that 20 taxpayer-funded chartered flights of Australians returning from covid hotspots would land on Canberra’s door step.
“The passage of time will see the number of people in (Canberra) quarantine continue to reduce, absent of a new cluster or a new outbreak elsewhere,” Mr Barr said.
“It depends a little on the nature of the quarantine arrangements. ....
