NPA mum over probe into double farm murders

National Prosecution Authority (NPA) in Mpumalanga is yet to explain the alleged lack of action in the killing of two farm dwellers in Mkhondo, despite a key witness who survived the attack. On the evening of 10 August last year, cousins Sthembiso, 32, Sifiso Thwala, 39, and friend Musa Nene, 34, were driving home from Daggakraal when their vehicle broke down on the dirt road next to Pampoenkraal Farm. Coka brothers’ murder accused granted bail

The accused in the Coka murder case have been granted bail.

The five men accused of the murder of the Coka brothers in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, have been granted bail.
Daniel Malan, 38, Cornelius Greyling, 26, Othard Clingberg, 58, and Michael Sternberg, 31, were arrested on April 9. A fifth suspect, Zenzele Patrick Yende, 48, was arrested on April 15.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said the men were each granted bail of R10,000 on Friday morning.
“Their case was postponed to June 30 for further investigation,” Nyuswa said.
The men were released on conditions including that they should not interfere with witnesses, that they attend court until their case was finalised, and that they must not discuss the matter with farm workers. ....

Johannesburg - Five men accused of killing two brothers on a farm in Mpumalanga were on Friday granted R10 000 bail each.
Daniel Malan, 38, Cornelius Greyling, 26, Othard Clingberg, 58, and Michael Sternberg, 31, and Zenzele Yende were arrested after Zenzele and Mgcini Coka were shot dead two weeks ago at the Pampoenkraal farm in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga.
It is understood that the siblings were seeking seasonal employment at the farm and a scuffle ensued, leading to their deaths.
The five men were then charged with two counts of murder and one of defeating the ends of justice. ....

The investigating officer in the Coka brothers murder case has told the Piet Retief magistrate s court that another double murder happened at the same farm where the siblings were killed.
W/O Vukile Nhlapho continued with her testimony in the bail application of the five accused yesterday, saying the other murders were committed at the farm Bampoen in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, in August.
