Royal Corpse hijack: Court fixes April 26 for hearing

A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Tuesday, fixed April 26 as the date for the hearing of the suit pertaining to the forceful hijacking of the remains of the late monarch of the Alaye Aba of Aba, Aiyepe Ijebu in Odogbolu local government area of the state by members of the Incorporated Osugbo Secret Society.
The suit was filed by the three daughters of the departed monarch; Mrs Aderonke Egunjimi, Mrs Tiwalade Abass and Mrs Adeyemi Joseph seeking the court’s order to declare the action of the Osugbo Secret Society members as unlawful, a violation of their fundamental human rights and a request for payment of damage caused to the family by their action.

Three children of the late Oba Rauf Adebayo Raji-Suleimon, the Alaye-Aba of Aba, Aiyepe have instituted a N50 billion suit against members and representatives of the incorporated Osugbo Society of Ijebuland (known as the Ogboni) before the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta over alleged hijacking the corpse of late monarch on January 24, 2021.
The children Mrs Aderonke Egunjimi, Mrs Tiwalade Abass and Mrs Adeyemi Joseph in a fundamental Rights Human Rights application filed by their lawyer, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), accused members of the society of infringement of their rights to privacy and family life by allegedly hijacking the body of their late father Alaiyeluwa Oba Rauf Adebayo Raji-Suleimon, thus depriving their late father a befitting burial.

Three daughters of the late the Alaye-Aba of Aba, Aiyepe, Ogun State, Oba Rauf Adebayo Raji-Suleimon, have sued the unincorporated Osugbo Society of Ijebuland (known as the Ogboni) over the alleged hijack of the late monarch’s corpse.
In a suit filed at the Federal High Court, in Abeokuta, they are seeking N50 billion against the Osugbo Society.
The claimants, Aderonke Egunjimi, Tiwalade Abass and Adeyemi Joseph, filed the fundamental rights application through their lawyer, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN.
They stated that Raji-Sulaimon was a devoted and practising Muslim in his lifetime, performing pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina and had several awards and recognitions by Muslim Societies because of his contributions to the Islamic faith.
