Digital Nobel's 'call to action'

Digital Nobel ‘is a call to action’
December 10, 2020
The Norwegian Nobel Committee couldn’t host its
traditionally elegant Nobel Peace Prize ceremony on Thursday, and there was none of the pomp and circumstance to hail the winner in Oslo. The Corona pandemic spoiled all that, but the head of the World Food Programme gamely accepted this year’s Peace Prize digitally from the UN organization’s headquarters in Rome, calling it a “call to action” to ward off famine next year.
The only thing “normal” about the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize this year was Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK)’s live coverage of the ceremony, which had to take place digitally and didn’t last more than 15 minutes. The leader of the World Food Programme that won, David Beasley, was nonetheless grateful for the recognition, and seized the opportunity to appeal for more aid to ward off threatened famine next year.
