Colombian Justice for Peace charges 15 more military personnel for the executions of civilians

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Special Court for Peace (JEP) today charged two colonels and 13 more military personnel for 127 murders and forced disappearances in the Colombian Caribbean region, in the second indictment in the case of executions of civilians known as “false positives”, for which last week it already charged 10 Army personnel and one civilian.
This second-order -of at least six- is part of the case 03 of the “false positives” and renamed as “Assassinations and forced disappearances presented as combat casualties by State agents”. (Photo internet reproduction)
“The JEP charges another 15 members of the Army with war crimes and crimes against humanity for false positives on the Caribbean coast: two colonels, six officers, four non-commissioned officers, and three soldiers from the La Popa Battalion (based in Valledupar, in the northeast),” said Magistrate Oscar Parra. ....

Colombia’s Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) has published key findings, including an incomplete and stunning number of civilians murdered by the military and passed off as rebels killed in combat – the infamous “false positives”. Victims can feel vindicated for their long-held complaints. But former president Uribe – under whose watch false positives spiked and dropped – and his allies are calling it a witch hunt.

Queen Kaâahumanu Center, Mauiâs main mall that includes anchors Macyâs, Sears and Foodland, is facing a foreclosure lawsuit after defaulting last year on a multimillion-dollar loan. However, a representative for the owners on Thursday expressed optimism about the mallâs future.

KAHULUI Despite facing a foreclosure lawsuit after defaulting on a massive loan, Queen Ka’ahumanu Center owners through a representative expressed optimism about the future of Maui’s main mall.
Lender U.S. Bank filed for foreclosure on the Kahului shopping center on Nov. 12, alleging owner QKC Maui Owner LLC defaulted in June, according to 2nd Circuit Court documents. The lender said nearly $87.5 million was owed on the loan as of Oct. 14. ....
