John Lamparski/Getty Images(SANTA FE, N.M.) Charges against Alec Baldwin have been dropped in the fatal on-set "Rust" shooting, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Baldwin, 65, had been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the New Mexico set of the Western in October 2021. The actor was practicing a cross-draw when the gun fired, striking the cinematographer and director Joel Souza, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
"We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident," Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, the attorneys for Baldwin, said in a statement.
The Santa Fe district attorney s office declined to comment.

ABC News(ST. LOUIS) Tornadoes are possible in parts of the Heartland Wednesday, as severe weather is expected to move through the region.
A tornado watch has been issued for portions of six states Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas through 11 p.m. CDT Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
Isolated tornadoes could be possible, especially in an enhanced risk area from Oklahoma City to Wichita Falls.
Huge hail and damaging wind gusts up to 75 mph are also possible as the storm system moves out of the West and into the Plains Wednesday night. An enhanced risk has been issued for areas including Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska, for very large hail and significant, damaging winds.
By Thursday, the severe weather threat stretches from Austin, Texas, to St. Louis, Missouri. A line of severe storms is forecast to stretch across the region, packing damaging winds and large hail, from mid-afternoon into the overnight hours.

Baton Rouge Police Department(BATON ROUGE, La.) A pregnant woman was fatally shot after a group of teenagers allegedly fired at her car in an apparent case of mistaken identity, police said.
Kerisha Johnson, 36, was shot early Sunday while attempting to pick up people from a party in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, police said.
Johnson, who was nine months pregnant and "due to give birth within several days," was found dead inside her car by officers responding to reports of shots fired, according to an arrest warrant.
During their investigation, police found that the event was promoted as an Easter party, attended by mostly teens.
Detectives learned that Johnson was driving toward the party when "several individuals" began firing at her white sedan believing she was someone who, driving a similar car, earlier shot into the air near the party, according to the warrant.
