Attorney-General Christian Porter has welcomed the news former Melbourne school principle Malka Leifer will be extradited from Israel to Australia after her appeal was rejected by Israel’s Supreme Court.
Ms Leifer is wanted in Australia on 74 sexual abuse charges allegedly committed while she was the principle at the ultra Orthodox Adass Israel Jewish school.
She fled the country in 2008, with dozens of court cases held since 2014 in an effort to return her to Australia, as well as a long campaign launched by three of her alleged victims.
Mr Porter said the news of her extradition would be very welcome to Ms Leifer’s alleged victims in Australia, but admitted there were still steps to be taken in Israel.
