Dhyan Foundation had challenged a District and Sessions Judge’s order to release seized cattle to their owner in a case registered on allegations that the cattle were subjected to cruelty during their transport.
"There is no statutory bar for an accused in custody in connection with a case to pray for grant of anticipatory bail in another case registered against him," the Orissa High Court held.
The Supreme Court has granted interim protection from arrest to Odisha State legislator and Leader of the Opposition, Jayanarayan Mishra in connection with a case lodged after he allegedly slapped a woman police officer.
The Orissa High Court directed the State government to arrange training programmes for the notaries in Orissa on a regular basis, on concerns that most notaries appeared to be unaware of their functions and duties.
"Being a married lady and accustomed to sexual intercourse, if the act was without her consent, she could have protested or resisted," the Court remarked.
