Mackay council has awarded a hefty maintenance contract behind closed doors because of confidentiality concerns and the work’s “specialist nature”.
The media and the public were excluded from part of the ordinary meeting of Mackay Regional Council meeting in May but minutes revealed Airconstruct HVAC Pty Ltd received a $750,000 contract.
Organisational Services director Kylie Lamb said Airconstruct would complete a deep clean, ventilation and renewal of the air conditioner systems at the Paget Depot and Wellington St buildings.
Ms Lamb said the contract was awarded via a tendering exemption because of the work’s specialist nature and necessity to have it completed outside ordinary business hours.
