Crescent Fire District Announces Prescribed Burn

Crescent Ranger District fire managers will conduct approximately 1,200 acres of prescribed fire operations this spring as conditions allow. All prescribed burn units are scheduled to take advantage of spring weather and residual moisture that allows firefighters to maintain low-intensity fire while removing ladder fuels and hazardous fuels loading. Ignitions are slated for units located approximately two miles south of the Two Rivers subdivision, two miles southeast of Cascade Estates and six miles southeast of Crescent primarily east of Highway 97. The prescribed burn units are part of the Rim-Paunina planning area. Fire specialists are using prescribed fire to restore fire in a historically fire-adapted ecosystem while reducing hazardous fuels that contribute to high intensity wildfire events which can occur during the normal fire season. No road or trail closures are anticipated although drivers can expect signs along Highways 58 and 97 and some Forest Service roads during burn ope ....

Prescribed Burns Near Sisters Next Week

Sisters Ranger District fire management specialists plan to treat up to 1,100 acres with prescribed fire during 2022. Prescribed fire units are dispersed throughout three project areas, including adjacent to Highway 20, within the Sisters Area Fuels Reduction (SAFR) area, and in the Metolius Basin. If conditions are favorable, Sisters Ranger District firefighters will begin spring prescribed fire operations next week. All prescribed burn units are scheduled to take advantage of spring weather and residual moisture that allows firefighters to maintain low-intensity fire while removing ladder fuels and hazardous fuels loading. The planned units are part of a continuation of treatments using prescribed fire to restore fire in a historically fire-adapted ecosystem while reducing hazardous fuels that contribute to high intensity fire events which occur during the normal fire season. Deschutes National Forest's last prescribed burn of spring Wednesday NE of La Pine

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) Fuel specialists with the Deschutes National Forest will conduct a prescribed burn northeast of La Pine Wednesday, to allow for firefighter training. This will be the final prescribed burn of the season on the forest, officials said.
Crews will underburn approximately 20-50 acres along Forest Service Road (FSR) 21, northeast of La Pine and east of U.S. Highway 97. The primary objective is to provide training to incoming firefighters within a controlled environment, but the burn will also help meet ecosystem objectives. Ignitions are expected to be completed in one day and are planned to begin at 10 a.m. ....
