This is âI Love Schoolâ week at Orchard Elementary in the South Burlington School District.
Students are participating in virtual events including math and science activities, and Zooming with local authors. These fun and educational events are all virtual, yet none of them are available to fully remote Orchard students.
Why is Orchard School denying fully remote students access to these events, as well as educational materials and other programs provided to in-person learners? As the parent of two fully remote Orchard students I have been asking these questions since September.
My emails and phone calls to Orchard School and the district have been met with a variety of responses, ranging from slight empathy to defensive and dismissive. These exchanges have produced no changes in the exclusion of remote learners from the Orchard learning community.
