Well its important to point out that these protests may have begun with High School Students but then more joined in. At one point there were hundreds of people marching through iowa city. Nats chanting hundreds walked through the streets of iowa city this evening. Walking straight through the middle, disrupting traffic so that no cars could pass. We came down here, blocked off traffic to make the statement that this is not the america that we want to live in chanting and waving signs the protest turned dangerous when they made their way down dubuque street during rush hour traffic. The protestors didnt stop. They made their way to interstate 80 and blocked traffic heading east bound. This woman wants to remain anonymous but was driving one of the cars blocked in front. it was scary because i dont know how i stopped that fast ....

Africans in america, the vast majority, were by law chattel, to be bought and sold, exploited unapologetically and often cast aside once every ounce of value had been extracted. But unlike the livestock that was listed alongside them on the state inventories and at auctions, this peculiar brand of property fought to assert and preserve their humanity, in their relations with each other, in the establishment and operation of their social institutions, and especially in their sacred beliefs. Peoples of african descent adopted a belief system that adopted their ethnicities in the particular circumstances that shaped their lives and labor.
