Intel believes Optane memory technology is a “disruptive, once-in-a-decade invention” that requires a system-level approach to enable performance gains and other benefits for data-intensive workloads. NAND SSD technology can’t deliver on the same level of performance and reliability but remains a large, important and economical part of the storage equation albeit in the hands of a different owner.
Those were two of the takeaways from Intel executives and architects speaking at the company’s virtual Memory and Storage Moment event last week, where the chipmaker revealed new Optane memory and SSD products as well as new NAND SSD products, covering both the data center and PC markets. ....

Intel has announced a wave of new storage products intended for multiple markets, from enterprise to consumer hardware. There’s a lot of new drives being announced, including:
SSD D7-P5510: Data center drive using NVMe, built with 144-layer TLC
SSD D5-P5316: Data center drive using NVMe, built with 144-layer QLC
SSD 670p: Consumer drive using NVMe, built with 144-layer QLC.
And the Optane drives:
Optane SSD P5800X: Data center drive, 2nd Gen Optane ....

Intel Announces New Wave of Optane and 3D NAND SSDs

Today Intel is announcing updates to most of their SSD product lines. Their products based on 3D NAND are being updated to use Intel s 144-layer QLC and TLC NAND. On the Optane side of the business, we have detailed specifications for the first product to use second-generation 3D XPoint memory, and an updated Optane Memory caching solution for client PCs. Intel has also revealed the code name for their third-generation Optane persistent memory modules, which will be launching along Sapphire Rapids Xeon processors.
