Former Charleston Police Chief James "Tyke" Hunt who has been under the microscope following sexual misconduct allegations has been demoted and suspended, the Charleston Police Department said on Thursday.
Interim Charleston Police chief Scott Dempsey was promoted to the position full-time at a swearing-in ceremony on Feb. 16 2024. Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin made the announcement at City Hall. Dempsey had served as interim chief since former chief James "Tyke" Hunt stepped down in August. Also at the event, CPD officer Jason Webb was named deputy chief.
