You may have never heard of Operation Peter Pan, but it's one of the most interesting stories of the Cold War. In the early 1960s, Fidel Castro had come to power in Cuba and the United States was worried about what he would do next. So they hatched a plan to fly all the Cuban children to America and keep them there until Castro was gone.
Less than 10 years ago, Republican and Democratic senators passed a bill that would have given Dreamers a pathway to citizenship, but the legislation died in the House. State Sen. Annette Taddeo, now running for Congress, writes that it's time for the GOP to come back to the table, as DACA, the program keeping Dreamers from being deported, hangs by a thread.
