OPELOUSAS, La. — Opelousas Mayor Julius Alsandor responded Thursday to an audit of the city s finances from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor that found while the city had made some improvements there were still some ongoing problems in the way the city conducts its business.
The audit, which was released on Monday, looked at the city s finances and operations for the fiscal year that ended August 31, 2020.
This year s audit shows lingering issues with paying bills on time, purchase orders and asset management. ....

OPELOUSAS, La. — Philip Dewoody has pleaded guilty and been given three life sentences Tuesday in a kidnapping and in the murder of Joyce Thomas.
Dewoody, 54 pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the slaying of Thomas. He also pleaded guilty to the aggravated kidnapping and rape of another woman. The three life sentences will run consecutively, or one after the other.
Dewoody was in prison but was released 91 years early. KATC Investigates obtained the audio recording of the June 2019 meeting of the Louisiana Board of Pardons and Committee on Parole that ended with Dewoody being set free 91 years early. ....

OPELOUSAS, La. — Opelousas General says they are no longer needing to move patients because of water issues.
KATC is told that engineers at the hospital were able to find a solution and now the boilers are able to produce enough heat. Patients are no longer being transferred at this time.
City water pressure appeared to be the cause of the boiler issue.
The deep freeze has caused issues with city water pressure leaving us with the inability to provide heat throughout our facility, a spokesperson said earlier on Wednesday about the issue. ....
