Connected Development (CODE) has cautioned the Federal Government and the National Assembly against restricting host communities’ sense of ownership in the recently passed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), saying doing so will fuel fresh agitations in the region.
Its Natural Resource Governance and Extractives Lead, Dr. Onyekachi Onuoha, who stated this yesterday in Abuja, lamented that the action showed utter disregard for the needs and priorities of the people that are the worst hit by the impact of oil exploration.
“The Senate is dashing the hopes of people directly affected by oil pollution, terminated livelihoods and underdevelopment caused by environmental degradation and other disasters occasioned by oil spills in the Niger Delta region,” he said. ....

Kwara committed to accountability on COVID-19 spendings

Kwara State Deputy Governor and chairman of the State Technical Committee on COVID-19, Mr Kayode Alabi, has assured Civil Society Organisations and other Non-Governmental Organisations of the state’s willingness to partner with them in their quest to know the state government’s efforts towards mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the utilization of the COVID-19 fund.
Alabi also said that Kwara State was ready to make available all information required, as it ensured all monies spent are documented and made available for public consumption.
Speaking when he met with the delegation of CODE and Oxfam Nigeria at the Government House, Ilorin on Friday, the deputy governor lauded the NGOs for their efforts in building a better society, just as he highlighted some of the efforts by the state government towards mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic. ....
