Covid-19 update for Onslow County

Announcements for Thursday, April 15: Onslow County has received new positive cases of COVID-19 as of April 12. Positive cases now total 15,916 with 142 deaths and 15,535 cleared. Onslow County is at 4.9% positive, while the state is at 6.9% positive.     Onslow County will cease operation of the mass clinic sites at the county’s multipurpose building and Onslow County Government Center by May 1. Vaccinations will continue to be offered by the county, but only at Onslow County Health Department, 612 College Street. Walk-in and appointment services will be offered during normal work hours. First Onslow County restaurant workers receive COVID-19 vaccine

Onslow County has officially begun vaccinating restaurant employees against COVID-19 as part of Phase Three of Five in their vaccination plan, a phase which includes front line workers, transportation, hospitality and restaurant workers.  Among the first Onslow County food and beverage workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine was local Domino’s supervisor Terry Blowers, who got his first shot at the Onslow County Multipurpose Complex Thursday morning in order to protect those around him. “It makes me feel good that all my team members are more safe because I’m not going store to store unvaccinated,” Blowers said. “It wasn’t necessarily about me. It was more about my team members and their families” 

Sale of $1 45M Onslow County shell building would create 18 new jobs

The Daily News The Onslow County Board of Commissioners (BOC) will hold a public hearing at Monday’s meeting before deciding whether to sell a county owned shell building located at the Burton Business and Industrial Park to a California based contracting and design firm. RQ Construction, LLC, which has a regional office in Sneads Ferry and is a Department of Defense contractor, has offered the full listing price of $1,450,000 to acquire the second shell building built at the industrial park to date.  The Onslow County BOC is expected to accept the offer for the building’s 18.8 acre site located at 723 Luther Midgett Dr. If they do, the transaction could be completed that week and RQ Construction would be bringing to Jacksonville an estimated 18 jobs of an average hourly wage of $16. 

Onslow County citizens phone bank closes new appointments for 65 year olds

Onslow County officials continue to adjust personnel to efficiently administer their stock of COVID-19 vaccinations and in doing so, they have decided to shut down their phone lines for the remainder of the week.  The Onslow County Citizens Phone Bank will be closed Thursday, Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan 22. as residents will not be able to schedule new vaccination appointments. Officials made the announcement Wednesday afternoon in order to free up staffing so they can complete previous callers vaccine schedules and help with the county s transition into a more streamlined scheduling system.   A news release from the county is quoted as saying, staff manning the citizen s phone bank are normally assigned other jobs. Additionally, other staff have been assigned tasks associated with the administration of the vaccine. The closure will allow the existing staff to dedicate time to the newly available appointments and to learn the new software.
