DARLINGTON manager Alun Armstrong didn’t have to go far for an insight into his team’s Buildbase FA Trophy opponents Wealdstone, who visit Blackwell Meadows today in the last 16 of the competition.
His son, Luke, played a starring role when Hartlepool played Wealdstone in the National League last month, scoring the first goal in a 3-1 win, to ensure that Wealdstone’s worries of relegation back to National League South continued.
“I’ve had a chat with our Luke about them, and he’s given me one or two ideas,” said the Quakers boss. “I watched that game myself. Hartlepool started like a house on fire and could have been 5-0 up, but Wealdstone made a couple of subs and got back into the game. Darlington embark on 350-mile trek in FA Trophy

DARLINGTON face their longest trip since becoming a fan-owned club when they play Weymouth in the fourth round of the Buildbase FA Trophy today.
The Quakers squad set off yesterday lunchtime on the daunting 350-mile trip to Dorset and stopped overnight in a Taunton hotel, with manager Alun Armstrong demanding an improvement on the 1-0 defeat at Farsley in the league on Tuesday.
“We’ve got to get our fingers out for the game,” said Armstrong, who was annoyed that the heads of one or two of his players appeared to drop after Farsley scored early in the second half on Tuesday night. ....

DARLINGTON manager Alun Armstrong admits that getting a result at Spennymoor’s Brewery Field will be a tough ask in his side’s return local derby this afternoon.
The sides drew 0-0 at Blackwell Meadows in a wind-spoilt game of very few chances on Boxing Day, and Armstrong knows that his team will be in for another tough game today.
“We know that we’re going to have a difficult game, and getting a result will be a tough ask,” said Armstrong.
“We had a good win on Monday against Blyth, but so did they at Gateshead. They’ll be full of confidence with that win, but we know what to expect after playing them last week. Having said that, they know what to expect from us. Hopefully, we won’t have to deal with a gale-force wind.” ....
