we have more details on that statement from the sons of osama bin laden, accusing the u.s. of executing their father. cnn s deborah feyerick joins us from new york. what more can you tell us about the statement and how is the u.s. responding now? well, the white house is going to be having its noon briefing soon, and we do expect to get a response from them. we did get a response from the vice president, joed the whon was in the situation room with the president as they watched this mission unfold about 11 days ago. his reaction to the bin laden letter, quote, you re kidding, unquote. the sons of osama bin laden are not completely convinced that their father is dead. they said they want conclusive proof like photos and video that they say exists. they are not sure that he is dead. because they didn t see his body before it was buried at sea. the sons, including osama bin laden s son, omar bin laden, who
a law enforcement source is telling us that snippets of all of the information seized from osama bin laden have been forwarded by the fbi agents to specifically agents in the field. but, here is the thing. that source is also saying that contrary to perhaps what you have heard elsewhere, no new plots have been uncovered to date. the information sent to agents is said to include phone numbers, and more fallout today from within bin laden s family. reza sayah has the latest from islamabad, pakistan. one of osama bin laden s adult sons outrage over the u.s. raid over the bin laden compound here in pakistan last week in a statement that appeared in t th new york times , omar bin laden says he is not convinced that his father is dead until he sees some evidence, perhaps his father s remains, but bin laden s son goes on the say that if indeed his father is dead, he
i have addressed the legal foundation of the actions that the president ordered. we feel very strongly that the successful mission against a mass murderer of americans and people around the world was entirely justified. and randi, another u.s. official points to the right of self-defense as listed in the u.n. charter, article 51, so there is foundation for this. clearly when the vice president heard that bin laden s sons were questioning this, he said, you are kidding? randi. and it seems that omar bin laden is sort of leading the charge here, and what do we know about him and his relationship with osama bin laden? well, you know, he has been interesting. he has been very public condemning his father for the violent actions useded by osama bin laden, and he publicly went up against his dad, but he is the one who is really saying that, you know, his father should have gotten a trial just
actions after 9/11. we re going to play a bit of what he said to cnn back in 2008 about that. i would like to say to my father, try to find another way to help or to find your goal. and this is weapons. weapons, not good to use it for anybody. so, jean, we find that omar wrote a letter, calling the killing of osama bin laden wrong and a fascination. he wants the united naegzs to investigate. did he receive the letter? well, what happened is omar called me the day that this came out and said, i have some things i want to say. would you type it up and do it for me? and i said, well, yes, of course. because i knew the family had gotten completely confused from all the conflicting accounts coming out and they really
omar only knew his father as a big hero, after the afghan war, and russians leaving, and then, think about this, one minute your father is a hero, the next he s the world s biggest enemy. so the whole thing is very painful for him all of these years. i think they always felt that some even omar, in the past, said, well, maybe h there can be a meeting and a truce like there was with the i.r.a. in england when they ve been so much killing and had a truce and kills was stopped. omar was an optimistic person about peace and stopping the killing. he s a young man who, probably the only person around osama who was brave enough to actually argue with him about the path he s taken and neat the reason omar left afghanistan. omar bin laden said his father deserved a trial much like iraqi president saddam
