John Angus (Gus) Baker: Well-loved Isle of Wight teacher | Isle of Wight County Press

Former Sandown High School teacher John Angus (Gus) Baker has died at the age of 81.
Gus was born in Hounslow on August 6, 1939, just before the outbreak of the Second World War.
He lived with his parents and elder brother, Roger in Isleworth, Middlesex.
His earliest memories were of hiding in the cupboard under the stairs, hearing the sound of aircraft, sirens and the whistle of bombs overhead.
The family were sheltering in the meter cupboard when the house behind them was hit and the back of their home was blown outwards during spring 1943.
Gus was later evacuated with his brother during the V2 strike in 1945 and spent some time in Devon, where he tried his first doughnut. ....
