A 23-year-old man, Happy Balogun, has been arraigned at the Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court over the stealing of property worth N1 million.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court yesterday that the defendant and others at large on July 8, 2021 at about 1.30 pm at Irona, beside Easy Life Hotel, stole plastic chairs and tents worth N1 million, property of Benson Oluwole.
He said the offence is contrary to Section 380 and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant his client bail, and that he would not jump the conditions.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is under trial for alleged rape.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, narrated to the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 23 in Ado-Ekiti.
Apata said the defendant defiled an 11-year-old girl.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma noted that reports of rape and sexual assault on female children were now rampant, NAN reports.

A Chief magistrate court, sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered two suspected rapist, Deji Oke (35) and Ogunmiloyo Kehinde (22), to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional center, Ado Ekiti for raping 11 and 13-year-old girls.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Olufunke Anoma said ” She found it difficult to overlook reports of rape and sexual assault on our female children, which has now become recurring decimal on daily basis, adding that, this social malaise demands more urgent and proactive action from all stakeholders involved in child care delivery.”
She ordered the remand of the duo in the custody of Nigerian correctional services and adjourned the matter to18/03/21 for mention.

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, ordered that a 40-year-old man, Oladipupo Seun, who allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl, be remanded in a correctional centre, pending legal advice.
The police charged Seun with rape.
Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade, did not take the plea of Seun, because the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
