Scores of teachers and staffers of the State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) went into jubilation on Monday following the approval of the implementation of their promotion arrears by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The action is coming after several years of career stagnation for the affected workers.
The chairman of SUBEB, Prof Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, made the announcement during the commissioning of operational vehicles, motorcycles, electronic gadgets, and instructional materials for basic schools in the state.
Public basic school teachers in Kwara State were last promoted in 2017.
According to Adaramaja, “Conduct of years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 promotion examination and oral interview has been expressly approved by His Excellency to hold between the 2nd and 5th August, 2021.

Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin, the state capital, SUBEB Chairman Prof Shehu Raheem Adaramaja said the exercise was merit-based and totally devoid of partisan sentiments as Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq had insisted that the process of recruiting teachers must prioritise only the right qualification and competence.
He said the recruitment team adhered to the criteria stated in the advertorial, ensured that the process was anchored on the needs assessment earlier conducted by the two agencies across the 16 local government areas, and accommodated the diversity of the state, including people living with disabilities.
“The import of this presentation is for the stakeholders to know what went down throughout the exercise and what teaching slots will be going to what local government and for what reasons. We gave priority to applicants of Kwara origins but we also considered non-Kwarans with exceptional performances as well as people living with disabilities,” h

The Christian Association of Nigeria in Kwara State has insisted that it will not allow its pupils to wear hijab, despite the Kwara State Government’s directive that Muslim female pupils in Christian mission schools should wear hijab.
The state government, last week, said it had approved wearing of hijab by Muslim female pupils in Christian mission grant-aided schools in the state.
It also said the 10 Christian mission schools closed down in the wake of the hijab crisis would be reopened on Monday, March 8.
However, the state branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria said it would not agree to the use of hijab in schools established by Christian missions, alleging that they were surprised that the government was trying to make a decision on a matter that was still before the Supreme Court.
