VOTER apathy yesterday characterised the council election held across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.
Our correspondents, who monitored the elections across the state report that polling materials arrived late in some the wards during the exercise that was generally peaceful.
At Uzoigwe Primary School in Asaba, materials were yet to arrive as at 9:15 a.m though a handful of voters were on ground with security presence when our correspondent visited.
At Illah and Okpanam in Oshimili North, materials arrived at about 10.20am and distribution of materials to the various units began almost immediately. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika said the state was calm, expressing hope that the polls would be peaceful. ....

WHEN the Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC, eventually awarded the 17-kilometer Emevor-Orogun Road to WEKAMA Construction Company in 2017, after several decades of being in a deplorable state, the joy of indigenes of the agrarian community, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State knew no bounds as they were optimistic that their dream of having their major road constructed was finally coming to fruition.
However, five years after the contractor mobilised to site, an air of despondency has again crept into the oil-rich community as the traumatic experience they have been going through continues to persist. ....

Interim Administrator/Chief Executive Officer, Niger Delta Delta Commission (NDDC), Barr. Emmanuel Effiong Akwa, has commiserated with the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa over the death of his father, Chief Arthur Okorie Okowa.
A press statement made available to journalists, signed by the Special Adviser to the Interim Administrator/CEO, NDDC (Media), Olorogun Jaro Egbo KSC, said: “I write to express my heartfelt and sincere condolences to your Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa on the passing to eternal glory of your beloved father and the patriarch of the Okowa dynasty of Owa Aliero, Delta State on the 27th of January, 2021 at the ripe age of 88 years.” ....
