Released on bail Jovanus Oliver Turay, the 16-year-old boy who is accused of using a Taurus G2C 9MM Pistol to shoot to death his female schoolmate, Precious Pearl Ireland, was on Tuesday, May 4 arraigned, along with his mother, Josia M. Saah, before the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice. Defendant Turay has been charged with negligent homicide, a third degree felony that carries a one-year imprisonment, while his mother, Josia was charged with illegal possession of a firearm. Justice Ministry to make announcement on Cyber-Ed School shooting today. When 14-year-old Precious Pearl Ireland died on April 13, as a result of a gunshot wound, her family was left with the scars of loss, grief and a burning desire for justice. From the public glare, forgiveness did not seem as an option. As the quest for answers to burning questions ensued, regarding how and why, there was an apparent push for Jovanus Oliver Turay, 16, who shot precious, to be charged as an adult by the state and not as a juvenile. “We are not making a conclusion at the moment because we obviously know that the act was untimely,” said Atty. Maxwell Grisby, an uncle of the deceased days after the shooting. Interestingly, Grigsby, who works as the Chairman of the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA), said he was speaking only in his capacity as a family member and not as a LiNCSA official. ....

According to media reports, the shooter, 16 yr. old Oliver Turay, has been turned over the custody of his lawyers pending determinations on whether he can be criminally tried. Not much has been heard from the parents save a statement attributed to the mother who reportedly told Police that the killer weapon, a magazine-fed 9mm pistol belonged to her deceased husband who she did not identify. ....
The Cyber-Ed Christian School administration said they are saddened beyond words to inform the parents that one of their students carried a gun on campus and shot another student. Authorities at the Liberia National Police have arrested two eleventh (11) grade students of the Cyber-Ed Christian School of Excellence in Sophie Community, Congo Town, for allegedly shooting to death a 14-year-old girl with a 9-millimeter pistol. The Cyber-Ed Christian School is owned and operated by Soni Williams, wife of T. Nelson Williams, Jr., former Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC). The victim, Precious Ireland, is the daughter of Dr. Philip Ireland, a physician at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital and survivor of the deadly Ebola virus in 2014. ....
