Bacolod cops seize P2.4-M shabu in weeklong ops

BACOLOD CITY - Drug enforcement teams of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) have recovered PHP2.4 million worth of suspected shabu in a series of operations in the past week. A report on Tuesday showed that 351.1 grams of the prohibited substance valued at PHP6,800 per gram were seized from Sept. 12 to 18. "Our operating units are relentless in their campaign against drugs and other forms of criminality," Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, police city director, said in a statement. The five anti-drug operations led to the arrest of also five newly identified individuals, now facing charges in court for violation of Republic Act 9125 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. In August, anti-drug operatives seized PHP7.1 million worth of shabu and arrested 46 drug personalities, data showed. Crimes in Bacolod City down by 26.8% in May

(File photo) BACOLOD CITY - Intensified police initiated operations and prevention measures brought down crimes here by 26.89 percent in May, according to a report of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO). Data on Monday showed that during the period May 1 to 31, there were 87 incidents recorded, lower by 32, compared to 119 logged during the fifth month in the previous year. Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, police city director, said crime prevention has always been the priority of the BCPO to continue making Bacolod peaceful and orderly. "We encourage everyone to keep supporting the efforts to achieve a better Bacolod to live and to do business," he added. The 87 crimes comprised 66 categorized under the peace and order index while 21 under the public safety index. Crimes included in the peace and order index are those that reflect the crime situation in a particular community while those under the public safety index cover vehicular incidents such as those resulting in homicide, ....
