After a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lakshadweep-Mangaluru passenger vessel service has recommenced operations with the arrival of ‘Parali’, a high-speed craft, at the Old Mangaluru Port. The introduction of the high-speed craft has reduced the travel time to approximately seven hours, bringing hope of reinstating this vital transportation link. Congress functionaries welcomed the passengers as the service resumes, aiming to bring better economic activity to Mangaluru.

Foundation stone was laid for the construction of coastal berth – a jetty for domestic commercial cargo ships – at the Old Mangaluru Port on Monday. The construction is being taken up under the Sagarmala scheme at a cost of ₹65 crore with the Union government contributing ₹25 crore and the State government ₹40 crore.
