A 20-year-old man who died after jumping into the River Thames to save a woman was “adamant” he had to try to rescue her, his friend has said.
Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, who was known as Jimi, was on his way home from work at a central London restaurant when he entered the water at around midnight on Saturday.
His emotional parents described him as someone with “a good heart” as they spoke of their loss.
Tearful Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid said people are “fully behind” a campaign for Mr Olubunmi-Adewole to be awarded a posthumous George Cross for bravery. ....

A 20-year-old man who died trying to rescue a woman in the River Thames told his friend “I have to save her” moments before jumping in. Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, known as Jimi, was on his way home from work at a central London restaurant late on Saturday when he was alerted to a woman falling from London Bridge. A 20-year-old man who died trying to rescue a drowning woman from the Thames was adamant he had to jump into the water in spite of the serious risk to himself, his friend has said.
Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, known to friends and family as Jimi, died on Saturday night, after trying to rescue the woman in the waters around London Bridge. On Tuesday, his friend Bernard Kosia, who was with him, described him as a hero.
âJimi was adamant, for some reason, that he didnât care (about himself). He didnât think twice as to what was going to happen,â Kosia told ITVâs Good Morning Britain. âI just remember him saying âBernard, I have to save her, Iâm going to save herâ.â ....
