Niger Delta Group Writes Tinubu, National Assembly, Others, Seeks Intervention Over Suspicious Death Of UNIPORT Graduate In Police Custody

A Niger Delta youth group, National Youth Advocacy against Injustice and Human Rights Abuse, has sent a protest letter to President Bola Tinubu and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the mysterious death of a graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Omokhinyema Okubo reportedly died in the custody of Ketu-Ejirin Police Division in Lagos State. According to the group, Okubo, 35 was a sales representative for a pharmaceutical company known as Exus Pharmaceutical Nigeria owned by a Chinese National, Mr. Zur-Yin. ....

An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced an assistant commissioner of police, Okubo Aboye, to life imprisonment for buying a stolen car from kidnappers.
Mr Aboye was sentenced on Monday alongside his mechanic, Niyi Afolabi.
According to the charge sheet, Mr Aboye was found with a Toyota Hilux van he claimed to have purchased from his mechanic who got it from kidnappers.
The charge sheet said the offence was committed “on or about the 9th -19th day of May 2005 at GRA, Ado Ekiti. The kidnappers then armed themselves with guns and kidnapped one Moses Ajogri 40 and robbed him of his Toyota Hilux van with Reg. No. APP 509 BK.” ....

An Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Okubo Aboye, 57, and his mechanic, Niyi Ibrahim Afolabi, 39, on Monday, bagged life imprisonment for receiving a stolen vehicle from kidnap suspects.
An Ekiti State high court sitting in Ado Ekiti which gave the judgment, also sentenced seven other persons, Solomon Ayodele Obamoyegun 39, Femi Omiawe 40, Damilola Obamoyegun 20, Bose Sade Ajayi 30, George Lucky 35, Chukwuma Nnamani 22, and Sunday Ogunleye 45 to 5 years imprisonment each without an option of fine for kidnapping.
In their testimony, the investigating police officers said the car was tracked to the compound of ACP Akubo Aboye, who on interrogation confessed that he bought the Hilux van from his mechanic who received it from the kidnappers. ....
