Ohio State is planning to offer an individual settlement program that could resolve some of the outstanding allegations of sexual abuse by former university doctor Richard Strauss, according to a notice of intent filed Monday with the U.S. District Court.
The program would be available to plaintiffs in five active lawsuits, and the university is committed to paying settlements up to an average of about $252,000 per plaintiff, said university spokesman Ben Johnson. That figure is the average settlement reached for 185 previous plaintiffs, totaling nearly $47 million in settlements. ....

The State Medical Board of Ohio has reopened 91 sexual assault complaint cases against physicians and other licensed medical professionals that had previously been closed.
The re-examination, announced publicly Wednesday, is the result of recommendations of a working group appointed by Gov. Mike DeWine in 2019 in the wake of the Dr. Richard Strauss sexual abuse scandal at Ohio State University. ....

Scientists may have found another reason to limit your child’s meat intake. A new study, lead by Ohio State University’s Dr. Jing Gennie Wang, suggests that a diet high in non-seafood meat may have a detrimental effect on lung health in children. Dr. Wang’s team pointed fingers at compounds called advanced glycation end products, or AGEs, which are released when meat is cooked and can attach themselves to cells in the lungs, causing lung inflammation and wheezing, when consumed. The study found that a higher consumption of AGEs among children was associated with an 18% increase in the chance of experiencing wheezing, a 26% increase in disturbed sleep due to wheezing, a 34% increase in wheezing during exercise, and a 35% increase in need for medication to treat wheezing.
