Police said the woman continued driving through the parking lot with the sergeant on the hood. The sergeant then fired his gun "several times," according to police, striking the driver.
Elyria Mayor Kevin A. Brubaker called the incident "serious and disturbing," announcing on Saturday "a complete review of the incident." He said body camera video from the incident will be released later Tuesday.
Deputy Josh Hamilton, 34, was traveling southbound on State Route 503 in a marked 2018 Ford Explorer while Michael Gayheart, 36, was traveling northbound.
“One nice thing about it is we can drive it across the ice. If there’s an ice floe, we can fall through and then drive back up on the ice and rescue people,” Sheriff Stephen Levorchick said.
