But an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ugiagbe Alex Osaghae, who was on guard duty at the home of the bursar, was killed by the gunmen, who also made away with his service rifle. BENIN CITY – A Chief Corp Assistant in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), ACP Alex Ugiagbe has been killed in a gun battle with kidnappers who attempted to abduct the bursar of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) at his private residence in Benin City. The incident occurred at Ogheghe community, Off Sapele road in the state capital, yesterday morning. It was learnt that though the gallant officer later died of bullet wounds, his sporadic firing prevented the kidnappers from succeeding as they swiftly retreated with varying degrees of injuries. A dependable source hinted our crime reported that the gunmen met stiff resistance provided in synergy with other NSCDC personnel and civilian security men in the bursar’s residence. ....
