Vandergrift gives no update on police conduct investigation

Borough s statement
On April 17, 2021, the Borough of Vandergrift was made aware of a police-involved encounter at a local restaurant which originated as a result of a 911 call. The Borough of Vandergrift has launched an investigation into the conduct of the officer. The investigation is continuing.
The Borough has also been made aware that Attorney General Josh Shapiro commented on this matter on his Facebook page on April 26, 2021. The Borough of Vandergrift has reached out to Attorney Shapiro to conduct his own independent investigation into this matter based upon his comments and concerns. The Borough of Vandergrift was contacted by the Attorney General s office, who advised that they did not observe any criminal conduct in this matter and will not become involved in the internal investigation in this case. We thank the Attorney General s office for their review of this matter. ....

A Pennsylvania cop is under fire for allegedly “racially profiling” a Black man at a diner. The exchange began when the white officer approached the Black man claiming he had been called into the establishment because of him. Posted to social media it has since then gone viral with nearly 1 million views, with many questioning the sobriety of the police official involved.
According to WPXI-TV, Marcus Townsend was eating at G&G Restaurant in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania on April 17 with his girlfriend and their service dog when the police official approached them. Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official condemned Vandergrift police Officer William Moore’s conduct during a police call this month, saying the officer “should not be trusted” to carry out the duties of his job.
Footage of the April 17 incident that started inside G&G Restaurant was taken by a Black patron being questioned by Moore. During the heated exchange that ultimately ended outside the restaurant, the patron accused Moore of racial profiling. Vandergrift police Chief Joe Caporali had said Moore was responding to a 911 call reporting that a Black man was smoking marijuana outside the restaurant. ....
