Hundreds gather to honor life of SMPD Officer Justin Putnam

AUSTIN Family, friends and law enforcement officers honored the life of fallen San Marcos Police Department Officer Justin Putnam on Thursday.
Following a procession from Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos, hundreds gathered at Shoreline Church in Austin for a public funeral.
“Covid prevented us from having a more timely service,” said Rob Koke, senior pastor at Shoreline Church. “But giving honor and tribute to a selfless sacrifice, to courage, and to a life well lived is never something that should be taken for granted. It is always worth the wait.”
Putnam was killed in the line of duty on April 18, 2020 when he and SMPD officers Franco Stewart and Justin Mueller were responding to a domestic disturbance call at Twin Lake Villas Apartments 2917 Hunter Road. ....

The public service for Officer Justin Putnam will start at 10 a.m. on June 3 at the Shoreline Church on Burnet Road in Austin. The funeral had been postponed due to COVID-19 at the family s request, says the city of San Marcos.
Memorial service to mark one year since San Marcos PD officer was killed
One year following his death, San Marcos Police will host a public memorial service for Officer Putnam on Sunday, April 18th.
A procession, limited to only Hays County first responders, will travel from Thomason Funeral Home to Shoreline Church beginning at 7:30 a.m. Members of the public are invited to pay their respects along the route, which will travel from Old Ranch Road 12 to Wonder World Drive, then on to I-35 North. ....
