It’s hard to fire a cop in N.J. Here’s why.

The veteran cop lied.
Cpl. Charles King, who served 34 years in the Long Branch Police Department, fudged the report on a car crash on July 21, 2008, to favor his friend, according to court records.
His actions, the Civil Service Commission determined, “struck at the heart of the public trust placed in a sworn officer to act honestly, and to execute the laws fairly, impartially, and without favoritism.”
The misstep would cost King his job.
But it wouldn’t be that easy to get rid of him. ....
