Priorities in the first hundred days. My name is neil and i am joined by my colleague paul. Paul, always good to see you. Likewise neil, great to see you. It will be fun. We both served in the Solicitor Generals Office during past transitions i think we should probably start by digging in a little bit on to what is happening in the front and how this transition might be different than past transitions. Maybe we will talk about specific cases that could be impacted by the change in the administration and you know, i think given that there is another impeachment trial about to begin maybe we should talk a little bit about that too. Maybe before getting into that carl, would you just mind introducing yourself to the audience. Sure, i would be happy to neil. Im paul clement and i will talk about two things that are relevant for todays presentation. First, just the georgetown connection. I am both a georgetown undergrad and somebody who has been teaching at the law school in various capacit

Welcome, everybody. I think we have some republicans that have a leadership election, but theyll be coming in. Can you see me . Can you hear me . Is it working . Well, the election is over. Theyre still counting the votes and making legal challenges and once all of the legal challenges are made and the votes are counted, well have that done. We still have two outstanding races in georgia to determine the control of the senate. And the committee will keep moving forward doing its work. We have next week social media oversight. I cant wait to have the social media ceos come to the committee and explain themselves about their platforms. I think theres a lot of bipartisan support to take a hard look at social media platforms. The earned act is still a business pending before the committee and after the hearing well have markup. But today, we have mr. Mccabe, the number two at the fbi during crossfire hurricane. I think hes going to appear remotely. I appreciate him coming. And what ill do
Hospitalizations over the last couple of weeks and it is an indicator. Of what may come thankfully, though because at the beginning of this pandemic they so heavily prepared for a surge that never fully came to fruition here in california that they really do feel prepared going into what looks like this 3rd surge in cases now all that work really has allowed them to feel more prepared at john muir, they have plans to upscale the number of icu beds dramatically so that theyll be able to convert regular units and isolation units pretty rapidly. Over at ucsf the Hospital System is said to be stockpiling remdesevir as they anticipate a shortage of that treatment. Theyre also banking up on masks and pp e as well doctors say because of how prepared they are this time around they dont want this threat of another surge to deter people with other Health Issues from coming into the hospital and seeking the help they need. You initially when everything started many months ago. We emptied out the
This year because of the covid pandemic do we have any real baseline to understand what is going on with the electorate going into this election . I think this election will be unlike anything we have seen in the past. Its hard to know if there is a good corollary. At this point we are seeing far more early and absentee voting then we saw in 2016. Its really off the charts. That looks atart early and in person voting and how it has trended over the past couple of years. People can see from watching it that the trend has been for more voting by absentee or mailin ballots then by in person on election day. What is happening in the thinking about conduct of elections that has led to this and celebrating this trend this year . Its been a trend about 20 years in the making. Ever since colorado and Washington State made it easy for their voters to vote by mail we have seen that once voters have that option they like that option. In a pandemic voting by mail is a good and safe option. In addi
