Posted by Jake McElveen The regularly scheduled February meeting of the Clarendon County Council began as usual with introductory remarks, an invocation, the pledge of allegiance, and approval of the agenda as well as January’s minutes. Following this, the Council moved to item 6, a Proclomation for Reverend O’Donald Dingle by Preston Stukes. Council then appointed John Louden (Jack) Furse to the Clarendon Behavioral Health Services Board and heard a request from County Administrator David Epperson to approve a 1% Cost of Living increase effective March 1, 2021. Council then moved on to two requests from the Clarendon County Transportation Committee for money in the amount of $10,000.00 and $2,500.00 to purchase signage and associated materials, as well as Purple Heart Signs that we be placed in the upcoming months. ....

The National Weather Service confirmed a weak tornado touched down Christmas Eve in Clarendon County, damaging a church and uprooting and snapping numerous trees. According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, the tornado occurred about 7 miles southeast of Manning. The tornado was rated an EF-1 with maximum wind speeds estimated at 90 mph. It was 50 yards wide and had a path of less than a half a mile.
