wasn t concerned enough about the consequences of this declaration by the general assembly to take adequate steps. you know, we faced this back in 1989 and 1990 and the george h.w. bush administration then secretary of state james baker said unequivocally, made a public statement that he would recommend to the president na the united states cut off all funding, assessed or voluntary to any u.n. organization that enhanced the status of what was then the palestine liberation organization. and it was a tough threat. and it succeeded. the plo did not get member state status or observer state status in any u.n. organization. and ultimately put part of the baker threat in the law. the obama administration didn t like the threat and didn t like leaning on the united nations and made that clear when the plo, when the palestinian authority sought membership last year,
wasted no time to say his speech was nothing but propaganda. under the u.n. vote the palestinians will become nonvoting observer state status at the united nations with borders reverting back to what was originally in place in 1967. now this resolution essentially means that on paper at least, jerusalem is going to be divided and under this resolution, the western wall, one of the holiest sites to jews, on paper be under the control of palestinians. for the most part the government reaction here is to downplay the vote. a spokesman for the prime minister says the u.n. decision is essentially no substitute for negotiations. melissa: the palestinians wake up this morning they will see nothing has really changed and the truth is nothing will change if they continue to boy scout israel and boycott peace talks. bill: israel had threatened
all this playing out on the streets as well. young palestinians who want statehood threw rocks and bottles at israeli border guards. that happened today. the israelis responded with rubber bullets and stun grenades. president abbas has called for protesters to keep things peaceful. israel has put additional forces along the border in case things get out of hand. and pakistan absolutely furious over accusations by the chair of the joint chiefs of staff, admiral mike mullen. for the first time publicly he is accusing pakistan s spy agency, the isi, of supporting the insurgents who attacked the u.s. he embassy in kabul. it was carried out by a group closely tied to the taliban. they act as a veritable arm of pakistan s internal services intelligence agency. with isi support, the operatives planned and conducted that truck bomb attack as well as the assault on our embassy. well, these aren t the first allegations that pakistan was helping terrorists, but mullen is the highe
