Dr. Dmitrii Samokhin from the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering highlights the potential of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) offered by Rosatom, particularly in regions of India where large NPP construction may not be economically feasible or logistically possible due to terrain and infrastructure constraints. The RITM-200 series SMR NPP, based on pressurized water reactor (PWR) technology, has been proven effective and safe in various applications, including nuclear icebreakers.
“We started forming a nuclear labor force in 2012-2013. Before that, as we know, we did not have our own nuclear power plant. Over the whole period from 2012-2013 to the present day, we have got some 600 young specialists,” Aleksei Derbin said.
