Down to help out with katrina thing in september. Its weird. Because you are dealing with people that lost everything and its kind of hard to imagine that if you havent done it yourself. Basically, you know, shes looking at her curtains here, she probably handstitched those things. Maybe they have been hanging there the last 5 or 6 years. Everything in the house is wrecked, photos, keepsakes, its a tough thing. And people deal with this kind of stress in different ways. We as disaster workers, we see it all the time. But we have a word we use, professional. We try to be professional around people that have suffered a loss like this because they dont want us to come you dont want to go into somebodys house and be joking and having a good time. Its unprofessional. When you are dealing with somebody who has a loss like this, just think of the word professional. Thats what we try to do. Everything is going to go through the mayor. You have the office of emergency services, everything is supposed to come together over on turk street. Thats where the ham radio base station is going to be. Thats where they will have a set up. They will be communicating with all the different Emergency Response districts. Thats where we fit in. Were going to fit into this Emergency Response staging thing into nert staging districts. Each response district has its own little inaudible then the nert groups are broken up into the corresponding Emergency Response districts and they are located at our Fire Department, battalion chief stations, basically theres a battalion chief there, he will be like the little commander of that district as far as were concerne ....

Something good if you are by yourself and you have to get somebody out, you get a blanket or a sheet or a throw rug. Works well on this kind of floor, doesnt work well on carpet. A chair is a similar type carry. If you put them on a chair, it works much better. Works great on stairs. Last thing were going to show you is an improvised blanket stretcher, how to carry somebody long distances. You want to use at least 4 people or 6, however many hands you can get on them. Grab that, make sure its past their head. Pull that out but only on the count. Okay, on the count of 3. 1, 2, 3, roll. Okay, why dont you stop. 1, 2, 3. Make sure your back is straight. Basically when you are using a ladder out there, make sure you keep the ladder 10 feet away from wires. Make sure the ladder is secure, that its on stable ground, that its even. If its on a hill, we really dont want you to use it on a hill, but if its on a hill, make sure its shimmieed with something stable. Make sure its at the right angle, we suggest 70 degrees. If you stick your hand on a rung, the angle of the ladder is about the right angle there. Never let go of the ladder. Stand in the center, climb straight up. If you climb on the edges of the rung, the ladder will go this way. Look up so you know where you are going and you can see where youre going to climb. Walk vertically. Dont step off to the side of the ladder. ....
