YANGON The most popular ethnic Shan party, the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), on Friday held talks with the country’s ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) on ways of cooperating in the legislature and administration under the upcoming government, and said the meeting’s “result was very good”.
The KySDP negotiating committee spokesman Theh Reh told Mizzima that a meeting between the Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP) and the National League for Democracy (NLD), had failed due to a disagreement over the venue.
The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) is still in internal talks and has not yet made a decision whether to meet with the ruling National League for Democracy’s special envoys for ethnic affairs, said SNLD General Secretary Sai Leik.

YANGON For the second time this month, a scheduled meeting between the National League for Democracy (NLD) and representatives of an ethnic political party to discuss plans for a federal union has fallen through due to a disagreement over the venue. This time the aborted meeting had been planned between the ruling party and the Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP).
Since its landslide victory in November’s general election, the NLD has been sending a delegation to ethnic states to hold talks on forming a national unity government with ethnic political parties as a step towards establishing a federal union.

Naypyitaw A National League for Democracy (NLD) delegation set off for Kachin State on Tuesday for talks on federalization with ethnic-minority political parties, said the party’s vice-chair, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung.
Dr. Aung Moe Nyo, a party secretary and Magwe Region chief minister, Daw Nan Khin Htwe Myint of the party’s ethnic affairs committee and Karen State chief minister, and Ntung Hka Naw Sam, the committee’s chair, are leading the trip.
