Bullying in South African schools is in the national spotlight after a Grade 10 Limpopo schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide after a video of her being assaulted by fellow pupils went viral.
In the video, the pupil is seen being confronted by two other girls. One of them signals the other to move while she gets closer to slapping her countless times.
The victim grabs the pupil who is assaulting her in an attempt to block the blows. Other pupils can be heard in the background cheering the alleged perpetrator, who is also in Grade 10.
A South African pupil in grade 10 is reported to have committed suicide after she was assaulted by another pupil at school on Monday.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the pupil from Mbilwi Secondary School in Limpopo is seen being confronted by a fellow pupil before the confrontation is interrupted by another pupil who unexpectedly slaps her numerous times.
The victim is seen holding on to her attacker while being slapped at the school. Another pupil tries to restrain the attacker, who is also a grade 10 girl at the school.
Provincial police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that police were investigating an inquest after the pupilâs death.
