Major tragedy averted in Srinagar, IED defused Major tragedy averted in Srinagar, IED defused 1990s like surprise CASO returns to Srinagar Fayaz Bukhari Srinagar, Feb 22: Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Railway Station in Nowgam area of Srinagar. A police official said that the IED was planted a few hundred meters away from the Nowgam Railway station near a bridge. The IED was spotted on a day when rail services between Banihal to Baramulla resumed after a gap of 11 months. The IED was spotted by the Road Opening Party of the CRPF and the police after which Bomb Disposal Squad was called in. “The IED was fitted in a tin box. It took BDS almost an hour to diffuse the IED,” a police official said. ....
Express train service runs with revised fares Srinagar, Feb 22: After a gap of 11 months, the Banihal-Baramulla train service resumed on Monday with revised fares bringing a sigh of relief to the commuters. Chief Railway Manager Saqib Yousuf said the train made two trips during the day between Banihal and Baramulla stations. Saqib said trains in Kashmir are running as mail express category and not passenger category that is why passengers have to pay extra fares. “Covid19 protocol was followed in trains as well at all 17 stations in the valley,” he said. Express train is a limited express rail service which does not stop at all stations, unlike ordinary passenger or local trains. Due to limited stops it runs at a high speed. ....
February 22, 2021 | Reported By : RK Online Desk An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was spotted early this morning on Pantha-Chowk-Nowgam road stretch in Srinagar was diffused successfully by the bomb disposal squad after which traffic was resumed on the road, officials said. The train services that started after a gap of 11 months also resumed normally. A police official said that a an IED was planted on the Pantha Chowk-Nowgam road, a few hundred meters away from the Nowgam Railway station near a bridge. “The object was spotted by the Road Opening Party (RoP) and the police team early this morning after which the BDS was called to check the object that turned out be the IED fitted in a tin box,” the official said. ....
