Belarus ships almost 23t of hazardous waste abroad for disposal Photo courtesy of the initiative MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus has shipped almost 23 tonnes of hazardous waste abroad for disposal, Aleksandra Bayeva, the head of the environmental initiative “Creating a mechanism of environmentally safe disposal of hazardous waste containing persistent organic pollutants”, told a news conference on 22 April, BelTA has learned. By joining the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, Belarus has committed to neutralizing all waste containing polychlorinated biphenyls by 2028. The environmental initiative “Creating a mechanism of environmentally safe disposal of hazardous waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs)” is another step towards this goal. It is running within the framework of the project “Civic engagement in environmental monitoring and improving environmental management at the local level” financed by the European Union ....
Three Belarusian companies named 2019 CIS Quality Excellence Award winners Valentin Tataritsky presents award to BMZ steel mill MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - The CIS Quality Excellence awards to the heads of the winning companies were presented by Chairman of the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization Valentin Tataritsky in a ceremony in Minsk on 22 December, BelTA has learned. The winners include the BMZ steel mill, OAO Torgmash (Baranovichi), and Dzerzhinsky Agrokombinat. The Novogrudok Gas Equipment Plant has been named diploma winner. The companies have been honored for the production of high-quality and competitive goods, increasing export, assimilating highly-effective quality management methods, creating a high reputation of CIS producers both in the CIS market and abroad, Valentin Tataritsky said. The Belarusian winners of 2019 supply more than 80% of their output abroad. ....
