Three out of 10 paid subscribers of Walt Disney’s streaming video service are in India where it operates as Disney+ Hotstar, the entertainment conglomerate’s quarterly earnings report showed.
Disney+ Hotstar has around 25 million paid users out of Disney’s global total of 94.9 million, the company said. The figure however, also includes Indonesia where the service has around 2.5 million subscribers.

Disney+Hotstar: Disney+Hotstar narrows FY20 net loss to Rs 361.8 crore; income up 45%

Disney+Hotstar, which follows a hybrid model in India – with both advertising as well as subscription video-on-demand (VOD) service – witnessed a 56% increase in ad revenues and 32.6% jump in subscription revenues.

Ad revenue stood at Rs 974.23 crore in FY20, up from Rs 622.75 crore in the previous fiscal, while subscription revenue went up to Rs 618.79 crore, from Rs 466.64 crore in FY19.
MUMBAI: Novi Digital Entertainment, the holding company of video streaming service Disney+Hotstar in India, has narrowed its net loss for the financial year ended March 31st, 2020, on the back of a 45% jump in revenues.
As per the company’s filing with the registrar of companies, Novi Digital’s net loss for the fiscal was at Rs 361.8 crore, down from a net loss of Rs 554.38 crore in FY19. ....

Prasar Bharati has signed and exchanged Content Hosting Agreement with Novi Digital Entertainment for the telecast of DD India Channel on Hotstar in the UK, USA, and Canada, effective from 22nd January.
To watch DD India on Hotstar, one has to search for DD India under the ‘search’ option in the Channels category. The arrangement with Hotstar is part of the efforts to develop an international audience for Doordarshan and to create a global voice for India. ....
