Michelle Boone
After a Black Lives Matter-related uproar that forced out its top two officers, the Poetry Foundation has appointed Michelle Boone, a Navy Pier executive and former Joyce Foundation executive, as president.
Boone will succeed former Northwestern University President Henry Bienen on May 4, almost a year since he and Chairman Willard Bunn quit days after the foundation was lambasted for an anemic response to death of George Floyd and its consequences.

In a statement today announcing her appointment, the foundation made a point of noting that Boone was selected after a “robust, diverse national search.” Formerly commissioner of the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events, she has been chief program and engagement officer at Navy Pier since 2016.
