Ore. The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today approved a petition filed by five conservation groups to give marbled murrelets more protection by reclassifying them from threatened to endangered under the state’s Endangered Species Act. The 4-3 decision comes two years after an Oregon judge ruled that the commission had violated state law by denying the petition without explanation in 2018. ....

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission voted 4-3 Friday to reclassify the marbled murrelet from threatened to endangered under the state s Endangered Species Act.
A total of 28 people testified for and against up-listing the murrelet, including several panelists invited to testify. the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a news release, which continues below.
The Oregon Endangered Species Act sets out criteria and procedural requirements that apply to the commission s determination on whether to reclassify a species. To reclassify or up-list the marbled murrelet as endangered, the commission must determine that since 1995 (when the species was listed as threatened), the likelihood of survival of the species has diminished such that the species is in danger ....
