Blocking funds that gadhafi could use to continue his violent crackdown, the treasury department has frozen at least $30 billion in libyan government assets, the largest amount ever blocked, it says, under a sanctions program. gadhafi has lost the legitimacy to govern, and it is time for him to go without further violence or delay. reporter: the u.s. ambassador is reaching out to opposition groups in libya, assessing who might lead up a post-goodry governor. some senators tell cnn they should help the rebels directly. the citizens government and support for them with both humanitarian assistance and i would provide them with arms. reporter: administration officials say it s way too early to talk about arming the opposition, but they are concerned the idea of a no-fly zone. a former state department real department says that s complicated. ....
people are getting out of libya right now. an estimated 100,000 refugees have crossed into tunisia and into egypt over the past week alone. cnn s ivan watson is watching the currently of people over at the libyan/to younecian border and joining us now live. what s the latest there? reporter: wolf, the scene was starting to get ugly today. in the no-man s land in between the last border gate fortunenesia and libya, there were thousands of people trapped. most of them foreign migrant workers, most of them egyptian males desperately trying to escape the fighting and to come into tunisia. the tunisian authorities are trying to help these people. they re setting is up distribution of food. they re setting up tents and so on but cannot handle an onslaught of this many people estimated at the current rate ....
