In a statement on Monday, 1 February, the environmental conservation group announced it has filed two legal actions to support what it calls “science-based management” of the northern anchovy stock. The organization has taken NOAA Fisheries to court over anchovy catch limits multiple times over the past few years, and alleged in 2019 that it had failed to protect the anchovy stock in Northern California. On Friday, Oceana filed a motion in U.S. District Court in the Northern California District asking U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh to find the government in contempt and order the government to comply with her 2020 order that the catch limits violated the Magnuson-Stevens Act. ....
The Bureau of Land Management names new Carson City District Manager Carson City, Nev. – Ken Collum has been named the new District Manager for the Carson City District, Bureau of Land Management in Nevada. Collum has 17 years of experience in the management of public lands. Prior to joining the BLM, Collum was an exploration manager and geologist based in Colorado and Nevada and worked throughout the western states, and through Central and South America. “Ken is a dynamic leader with a proven track record and decades of experience both in the Carson City District Office and across the region,” said BLM Nevada state director Jon Raby. “We are all excited to have Ken managing such a diverse and important district of BLM Nevada.” ....
